How to achieve Oracle Eloqua certifications
B2B Master and B2B Luminary accreditations Oracle Eloqua are the most recommended for Marketing Automation and Email Marketing professionals.
Previously, Alejandra has already explained how she got the Salesforce Marketing Cloud Consultant certification and what the whole process involved. This time I will tell you how I achieved the two Oracle Eloqua accreditations: B2B Master y B2B Luminary.

First of all, in the case of Oracle, we have to differentiate the term accreditation of the term certification. On the one hand, the accreditations are designed for the end user: specialists in marketing automation, CRM, Email Marketing and marketing professionals in general. They cover more strategic aspects and provide a broader vision of marketing automation and its possibilities, without forgetting the technical aspects necessary to implement a successful marketing automation project. There are two specific accreditations for specialised professionals which, in fact, are the ones I have achieved and which I will talk about later in this post:
On the other hand, the certifications are designed for professionals specialised in the implementation of the tool (architecture, model and data management, integration with CRM, programme configurations, emails, forms and automations). Oracle has these two:
- Oracle Eloqua Marketing Cloud Service 2019 Certified Implementation Essentials
- Oracle Eloqua Marketing Cloud Service 2019 Certified Implementation Specialist
If you want to obtain any official recognition from Oracle Eloqua, you will need to complete a Oracle University specific training. It is therefore not possible to sit the exam on your own. Whichever type of certification or accreditation you are interested in, you can opt for one of the following three training modalitiesThe Oracle University subscription where you can view on-demand videos and other training content, and finally, the Oracle Guided Learninga customised training for companies.
In my case, I chose to do the on-demand course. As I was completing the modules, I was testing the tool and its functionalities with real clients. However, for people who want to get certified or accredited in a short period of time, I recommend the live virtual classes. It should be noted that the accreditation/certification is annual, renewable upon completion of new modules and a refresher test.
TIP: When it comes to contracting your training, there is a package with on-demand classes only, which is a little cheaper.
New at the end of 2019, Oracle announced a new package (Oracle CX Marketing Learning Subscription) which includes all Oracle Marketing Cloud training products in a single subscription: Oracle Eloqua, Responsys, Maxymiser, BlueKai (DMP), Infinity, Content Marketing, and Social Cloud.
The cost of the subscription is 1,792 euros per user, for one year's access, for on-demand courses. For live online courses, the cost is 2,151 euros. This is an interesting pack, if we take into account that until now, if you wanted to accredit Eloqua and Responsys, you had to contract the two products separately.
B2B Master and B2B Luminary Accreditations
Well, as I said at the beginning, in 2019 I obtained B2B Master and B2B Luminary accreditations Oracle Eloqua. Both were the ones most recommended by the Oracle team for my profile, the one of Marketing Automation Specialist.
B2B Master
Although the name may lead to confusion, the B2B Master is Eloqua's basic accreditation, it is the first level of accreditation with a knowledge base of the platform (B2B: Fundaments) and best practices within marketing automation platforms (Modern Marketing: Revenue Performance Management - RPM).
- B2B Fundamentals: It teaches the basics of the platform: creating segments effectively, using shared lists and filters, creating emails, forms, automated processes in a form, creating Landing Pages and setting up a Campaign Canvas with workflows and multi-step campaigns.
- Revenue Performance Marketing (RPM): is a more theoretical and complex module that focuses on marketing automation. It teaches the basics of the marketing and sales funnel, data management, reporting and other strategic areas such as segmentation, lead nurturing, lead quality, lead scoring and revenue performance indicators.
Once you have completed this training, you will be ready to sit the exam. The exam consists of a 40-50 multi-choice questions which you will have to answer in 90 minutes. To pass the exam you will need to obtain a score of 80%.
Once you obtain the title of B2B Masteryou will be eligible for accreditation B2B Luminary. It is a much more complex test, whose content, apart from the B2B Master, covers 5 advanced concepts: Analysis, Conversion, Engagement, Targeting and Technology.
B2B Luminary
The agenda of the B2B Luminary is quite extensive and contains almost 30 hours of videos in more than 20 modules:
- Advanced Segmentation
- Advanced Editing and Form Processing
- Lead Scoring
- Progressive Profiling
- Data Cleansing
- Web Profiling
- Personalising Campaigns
- App Cloud
- Database Security
- User Management
- CRM Integrations
- Program Canvas
- Custom Subscription Management
- Uploading HTML Email
- MM: Global Demand Center
- Insight for Reporters
- Insight for Analyzers
- Advanced Dashboard Functions
- Working with Pivot Tables
- Advance Criteria Functions
- Eloqua Sales Tools
As in the previous case, once you have completed this training, you will be able to sit the exam. In this case, you have 90-100 multi-choice questions which you will have to answer in 120 minutes. To pass the exam you will need to obtain a score of 80%.
Once you have passed the exam, you will need to do a practical exercise which consists of reviewing a marketing automation campaign and its different elements (segments, campaign canvas, email, etc.), finding errors and inconsistencies with respect to the briefing sent.
Once you have passed this stage, you will need to create a post in the Topliners Blog demonstrating, in a practical way, some of the concepts learnt during the course. You must choose a topic related to the training and develop it in a short and direct post (in English). Here you have my post. Once created, you will need to fill in a form to complete the third stage of accreditation. Within a week, you will be given an answer or, if necessary, asked to make any changes.
It should be noted that this was the process in place in 2019, currently it may have undergone some modifications/updates.
If you are thinking of applying for both certifications, my advice on how to approach this review would be these:
- To complement your training you can review PDFs and book sessions to cover any parts you don't understand. The videos are in English, but you can add subtitles to make it easier to understand. There is also an option to read the transcript of the audio in most of the videos. In this way, you can copy the text and create your own course notes. However, on the downside, Oracle University does not allow you to download the course files (pdfs and videos), so you will have limited access for the duration of your subscription (usually 1 year).
- Create an index with all modules, links to pdfs and summary / notes with basic concepts you find in each module.. In the case of accreditation B2B Luminary You have a very extensive syllabus and it is very important to be clear about where each item of content is to be found. During the exam it can help you to make a quick reference for very specific topics. Bear in mind that the exam time is quite limited.
- Study all contents until you are sure you have learned the main concepts. The test mixes general questions with very specific details that you will only get right if you have seen all the material.
- During your training, complete all the exercises proposed at the end of each module and review all the questions before the exam.. Many of them are repeated throughout the exam or are presented in a similar way. This will help you to get used to the type of exam proposed.
- You have three possibilities to pass the examat no extra cost. I recommend taking the exam once you have seen all the content. If you do not pass or are not happy with your score, you can review your improvement points and choose to retake it. The score is not reflected in your accreditation.
- Focus on the most relevant modules of the platformSegmentations, Forms, Customisations, Automations, Web Profiling, Insights and Analyzer. In my exams, for example, there were a lot of questions about the reporting system, and they were definitely the most complex.
If you are considering taking one or both accreditations, but have no prior knowledge of the platform, don't worry, it is possible to pass the exams as long as you have the time to study all the materials in depth. Oracle requires you to take the training first before taking the exam, so the test is much more related to the training content than to actual experience with the platform.
In our case, we felt that both accreditations were necessary in order to gain a more strategic view of the tool and safely handle automations, schedules, customised tables and the Analyser module to create customised reports and dashboards. Having been able to carry it out in parallel to the actual implementation of different solutions with clients has allowed us to have a broad perspective and to grow much more quickly in the use of the tool.
