2015 State of Email Marketing Report (Litmus)

23 March 2015 alecastellano Comments Off on 2015 State of Email Marketing Report (Litmus)

state_of_email_ebookYes Last week we talked about the Salesforce study "2015 State of marketing". On this occasion we focus on the data of the email marketing sector, from the study that annually offers us Litmus: 2015 State of Email Marketing Report. In this report, the main changes that have occurred over the last year and the consequences and challenges that these changes pose for email marketers are presented. Litmus proposes 5 blocks to address these changes:
New devices, applications and operating systems
Here we find important developments this year that have had an impact on the sector and on the way emails are designed. The most notable developments are:
The arrival of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus offering 2 new screen sizes to contend with in terms of responsive design and an inbox that displays more of the content inside our emails.
Apple introduces iOS8 and with it the tag is no longer supported. But you can always fall back on images/GIFs that link to the hosted video.
Other highlights include the arrival of Outlook 2015, very similar to Outlook 2011 with some changes in the inbox hierarchy (more importance to the From Name than to the subject), and of the application Gmail Inboxsurprisingly and unfortunately, no responsive support yet designate. Yes, we have this look on our faces too:

2. Deliverability
There have been changes in the terms of the DMARC used by Yahoo and AOL, so if you send your emails from a platform using a from name If you use a Yahoo or AOL domain, you will most likely end up in the spam folder. As always, to optimise deliverability, we recommend using private domains or subdomains for the email marketing account you use to build a sender reputation and maintain it in the eyes of email services and spam filters.
On this point, Litmus also highlights the implementation of an anti-spam law in Canada.
3. Updates and changes to email clients
Gmail Email MarketingChanges to Gmail: are the most notable over the last year, as they have had major consequences for the email sector. The most talked-about changes refer to the automatic download of images, the use of Google's cache to host them (and its impact on opening statistics) and the inclusion of an unsubscribe link in emails by the email service itself. There is also talk of the "grid" view of the promotions tab, although this change has not been as influential as the previous ones.
For its part, Yahoo has stopped supporting "align" attributes on nested tables and this means that templates that used to work correctly now appear left-aligned. Digital Response solved this problem with an external container table, aligned to the centre. Litmus also proposes to add this style to this external table: table-layout: fixed.
4. Developments and news for email marketers
This is the point of "self-promotion" for Litmus, although they deserve it, as they are always proposing new places for interaction between professionals and tools to make life easier for professionals in the sector. In this case, they present this year's two jewels:
The Litmus community: where we can discuss concerns, doubts and problems that arise every day in our work with the best in our sector.
Litmus Builder: an email marketing oriented code editor that every email developer will love.
5. Email Client Market Share
We have already mentioned this Litmus website as a reference, where they collect their data on email open rates on different devices and email clients. In this case, they collect the current data, which point to almost 30% of opening from iPhone. They also present interesting graphs on the evolution of the different email reading environments in the last year.

Email marketing tools(II): Preview in email services

2 October 2013 Jordi Puig Comments Off on Herramientas de email marketing(II): Previsualización en servicios de email

One of the most widely used email marketing tools is the preview tool. It allows you to analyse how the email will look on different email providers (Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.) on different devices (smartphone, tablet and desktop) and on the main browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Explorer).
