In this post we echo the latest update of the Email Client Market Share by Litmus, which analyses the market penetration of different email clients around the world based on openings.
The data covers the last 12 months of the year (1 May 2011 to 31 May 2012) and was extracted after analysing 101 million opens monitored through the Litmus Email Analytics solution.
These are the most significant findings:
- Outlook is the email client with the highest rate, with 23% of market penetration. However, in the last year it has lost more than 50%.
- Growing use of Apple Iphone (grew from 10% to 18% in the last year).
- Yahoo and Hotmail share 9% of market penetration, with little variability over the last twelve months.
This data is useful to email marketers in that it allows us to know on which email clients the display of emails is critical.
